SOIL ASSESSMENT RELATED TO
REMOVAL F UNDERGROUND TANKS
620 West ChaOrter Way, Stockton, California
' Delta Project No 40-88-586
Page 8
Soil samples will be collected at a vertical spacing of five feet Borings will be advanced to a
' minimum depth of 30 feet or until three consecutive soil samples (representing 15 feet of borehole)
show non-detectable levels of contamination Soils will be screened with a portable photoionizat,on
detector,as described in Section 3 2, to determine organic-vapor content The level of contamination
' will be considered non-detectable if organic-vapor content is comparable to background levels A
"clean" sample will be submitted for laboratory analysis to verify the field determination
' 3.2 Sit Sample Collection and Screening
Soil samples will be recovered using brass sample tubes within a California-modified split-barrel
sampler The brass tube will be capped, packaged, and preserved according to accepted EPA
procedures for possible chemical analysis A sample collected adjacent to the brass tube will be
' sealed in a glass far All soil samples collected in glass bars will be brought to the same temperature
and screened for total organic vapors utilizing a portable photoionlzation detector Appendix B,
Section 1 3 describes the soil-screening procedure Based on this information, soil samples will be
selected for chemical analysis
3.3 Chemical Analyses
Based on results of soil-sample screening, soil samples will be selected for chemical analysis The soil
samples will be analyzed for TPH by EPA Method 8015 Those samples with TPH concentrations
exceeding 100 ppm will be analyzed for BTEX by EPA Method 8020
' 4 0 SCHEDULE
Delta will proceed with the work outlined in this plan as soon as approval is obtained A drill crew
will be mobilized to drill the proposed borings within two weeks of approval of this plan Laboratory
analysis of soil samples generally requires three weeks A summary report of our results will be
prepared within three weeks after laboratory results are received
1
