26 July 2002
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0326
Soils encountered in the borings will be visually classified by an AGE geologist in accordance with
the Unified Soil Classification System(USCS).Additionally, soil samples with be field screened for
the presence of volatile organic compounds using an organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-
ionization detector(PID) precalibrated to isobutylene.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015 Modified.
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tertiary-butyl ether
(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8021.
• The oxygenated compounds di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE),
MTBE, tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), methanol and ethanol
in accordance with EPA Method 8260 Modified.
• The fuel scavengers ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2 dichloroethane (1,2 DCA) in
accordance with. EPA Method 8260.
Laboratory reports for soil analysis, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with
findings and recommendations.
4.2. WELL COMPLETION
Completion of single-level monitoring wells will follow the procedures detailed in the AGE-
prepared Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan -July 1998, dated 09 July 1998 and Monitoring
Well Installation Work Plan -Addendum, dated 18 August 1998; both were approved by the EHD
by letter dated 14 September 1998.
The soil borings completed as multi-level ground water monitoring wells will utilize a polyethylene
casing consisting of a 1.7-inch diameter tubing; the inside of the tubing will consist of multiple
%2 inch diameter teflon tubes partitioned into separate chambers. A stainless steel, 0.02-inch screen
will be wrapped around each perforated area of the tubing.A proposed multi-level well construction
diagram is depicted in Figure 5. Additional multi-level design information is contained in
Appendix A.
After installing the well casing in each boring,a filter pack material will be slowly emplaced through
the augers over the screen interval to approximately two feet above the screened intervals.Filter pack
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
