03 September 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0290
the desired sampling depth and retracting the casing to expose 4 feet of screened PVC casing. Water
will be retrieved using a positive displacement sample tubing and ball bearing assembly. The ground
water samples will be collected into 40-m1 VOA vials. The actual grab water sampling depth will
be determined by the site stratigraphy.
For the second phase, four ground water monitoring wells will be installed. Two wells will be
installed on-site at the northwest and southwest corners of the property. One well v..ill be installed
in the parking lane of Charter Way. One well will be installed behind the restaurant located at 721
East Charter Way. Pennission will also be obtained to sample the monitoring well currently located
at 721 East Charter Way, installed for a separate investigation at the USA service station, located
east of the site.
All borings will be advanced to a total depth of 45 feet bsg using hollow-stem augers. Soil samples
will be collected a five-foot intervals, beginning at a depth of 25 feet bsg in the boring advanced at
721 East Charter Way and beginning at a depth of 5 feet bsg in the remaining borings. Procedures
for the advancement of borings and the installation and sampling of the monitoring wells were
described in the Alonitoring Well Installation iYork Plan, dated 09 July 1999 and prepared by AGE.
The proposed monitoring well locations are depicted on Figure 2. The precise boring locations will
be based upon access agreements ,vith CalTrans, the owners of the adjacent property and the
locations of underground utilities.
If grab water samples collected from the Geoprobe soil probings indicate the presence of
hydrocarbons in the deeper ground water, the soil borings may been advanced to deeper depths and
dual-completed as illustrated in Figure 3. A single-completed deep well will then also be installed
adjacent to MW3.
An encroachment permit will be obtained from CalTrans and permission will be obtained from the
owners of 721 East Charter Way prior to commencement of drilling on their respective properties.
Any additionally required drilling permits will be obtained from the PHS-EfID.
