Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc . -.
;, -• :.1
10 August 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0326
Ms. Teresa Trinh
State Water Resources Control Board
Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund
2014 T Street, Suite 130
Sacramento, CA 94244
Subject: CLAIM NO. 12741 - Additional Information
K&S Gas & Grocery
701 East Charter Way, Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Trinh:
On 21 May 1998, a request for cost pre-approval was submitted by Mr. Khaldoon Othman of K&S
Gas & Grocery for the characterization and disposal of hydrocarbon-impacted soil excavated from
the subject property. During a telephone conversation with Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE)
in June 1998, the Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund stated that additional information was
required before pre-approval could be received.
On behalf of Mr. Othman, AGE has the following information for your consideration:
• On 13 February 1998, three underground storage tanks (USTs) were removed from the
subject property. Hydrocarbons were detected in samples collected beneath the USTs and
piping area.
• With approval from the San Joaquin County Public Health Services - Environmental Health
Division (PHS-EHD), and prior to the installation of a new UST. impacted soil was
excavated from the site. Approximately 75 cubic yards of soil were excavated during the
removal of the USTs and piping; an additional 185 cubic yards of impacted soil were
"overexcavated" prior to installation of a new UST. A total of 260 cubic yards (341.18 tons)
of soil were removed from the site.
• Due to space limitations, the excavated soil could not be stockpiled for characterization.
Therefore, the soil was transported to Forward, Inc. for characterization and disposal.
• A work plan for characterization and disposal of the impacted soil was submitted to and
approved by the PHS-EHD. A copy of the work plan and approval is attached.
4005 North Wilson Way. Stockton, California 95205
Telephone (209)467-1006 FAX(209)467-1119
