Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) has prepared this Work Plan for the disposal of hydrocarbon.-
impacted soil excavated from the former underground storage tank (UST) area at 701 East Charter
Way, Stockton, California. The location of the site is illustrated on Figure I -Location Map. A plan
of the site is illustrated on Figure 2 - Site Plan.
Excavation and Characterization of Hydrocarbon-Impacted Soil
Three underground storage tanks (USTs) were removed from the site on 13 February 1998.
Petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in soil samples collected from the UST excavation at
concentrations as high as 1,400 parts per million (ppm, reported as milligrams per kilogram).
Approximately 75 cubic yards of hydrocarbon-impacted were removed during excavation of the
USTs. Previous investigation at the site had also indicated that hydrocarbon-impacted soil was
present in the UST and piping areas.
During the installation of new USTs and piping, an additional 185 cubic yards of hydrocarbon-
impacted soil were excavated. However, due to space limitations on site, excavated soil could not
be stockpiled on-site and was therefore transported to Forward, Inc. for characterization and eventual
disposal. Soil excavation was approved by the San Joaquin County Public Health Services -
Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD).
The stockpiled soil was sampled for characterization on 30 March 1998: a total of six samples were
collected from the stockpiled soil and composited 3:1 at the laboratory for analysis. Low
concentrations of hydrocarbons were detected in the stockpiled soil samples (S-1,2,3 and S-4,5,6).
4005 North Wilson Way, Stockton,California 95205
Telephone(209)467-1006 FAX(209)467-1118
