' 31 July 2003
AGE-NC Project No 97-0326
' BTEX compounds were detected in all of the wells sampled Benzene was detected in samples from
MW 1, MW2 and MW3 at concentrations of 3,200 pg/l, 20,000 pg/1 and 19,000 µg/1, respectively
Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected at maximum concentrations of 13,000 pg/l,
2,700 pg/l and 12,500 µg/1, respectively from well MW3
MTBE was detected in the ground water samples from MW1, MW2 and MW3, at concentrations
Iof 310 gg/l, 13 pg/1 and 190 pg/l,respectively 1,2-DCA and EDB were detected in the ground water
sample collected from MW3 at concentrations of 21 pg/l and 3 9 µg/1, respectively No other fuel
' additives were detected at or above laboratory detection limits in the samples analyzed
Analytical results of the ground water samples for the April 2003 monitoring event are summarized
I on Table 2 The laboratory report(CTEL Project No CT214-0304085),QA/QC report and chain-of-
custody
hain-ofcustody form are included in Appendix C
' 4.0 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
'• Based on the data collected from the site, AGE finds
• The inferred ground water flow direction at the site has been dominantly toward the south-
southeast during the thirteen monitoring events conducted previously, the inferred ground
water flow direction on 11 April 2003 was toward the south-southwest However, the
lnstoncal ground water flow direction at the adjacent site to the east(USA),and at the Monta
' Brothers site at the southeast corner of East Charter Way and Grant Street, has been toward
the east or northeast
• High concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in ground water samples
collected from all three monitoring wells on the site (see Figure 3) BTEX compounds and
MTBE are at concentrations exceeding CaIifornia's Maximum Contaminant Levels for these
' products in drinking water 1,2-DCA was detected in well MW3 for the second consecutive
time in the past nine sampling events EDB was detected in well MW3 for the first time in
the past eleven sampling events
' • Neither the vertical nor horizontal extent of impacted ground water has been delineated at
the site
I
5.0. RECOMMENDATIONS
' Based on the findings of this investigation, AGE recommends continuation of the quarterly ground
• g g q y
water monitoring program, as required by the EHD
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
I
