Plan does not include sufficient investigative work to define the lateral and vertical extent of contamination with
soil borings and appropriately screened Monitoring Wells (MWs). Evaluation of both deep and shallow aquifer
(currently installed MWs are over-screened except for BM12 and possibly BMI) must be performed. A proposal
for investigating feasible alternatives for remediation of contamination in soil and water below the vadose zone
should be included in the work. Additional borings using the cone penetrometry test method are recommended.
2. For the proposed deep boring, soil and groundwater sample collection locations proposed are a duplication of
previous data collected 80 feet bsg and above.
3. Sample analysis for Oxygenates is not proposed. Oxygenates should be analyzed in soil and water samples using
US EPA Method 8260B (see PHS/EHD letter dated June 18, 1998).
4. Plan does not contain a method for evaluating the effectiveness of the soil vapor extraction and air sparging
systems. Remediation efforts at the site have ceased. A work plan to address remediation of soil and water
contamination at the site must be submitted to PHS/EHD by the above referenced date.
5. Site map doesnot show the location of the previous dispenser and fuel lines. Submit an accurate site map.
6. PHS/EHD recommends that you contact and work with consultants and responsible party's from adjoining
properties in order to better characterize the nature and extent of contamination at this site and to employ the
most appropriate remediation method(s). -
DATED _3 3 / ` rev BY (? it re
Carol Oz Senior REHS.
