Rodger Liston
Darpetro Inc. -
749 E. Charter Way, Stockton, California
ceasing , the sample tube will continue to act as a gravity flow siphon and produce an
undisturbed VOC sample'. Please include this sample collection method in your
procedure while utilizing the WaTerra system .
The proposed utilization of the WaTerra system will eliminate much of the equipment
decontamination work that must be performed in the field , however some equipment
decontamination in the field is usually unavoidable. The use of spray bottles as
described in Protocols raises some concern , therefore EHD recommends collecting
equipment blanks after performing the last decontamination procedure to test for cross
contamination . After the decontamination method has been shown to be effective, the
blanks should still be collected , but analyzed only if cross contamination is suspected .
The spray from the decontamination procedure should be collected and stored for proper
disposal .
,I
The analytical regimen for the groundwater samples was not specified in Protocols; EHD
assumes that the samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified
as gasoline (TPH-g), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX), the five fuel
oxygenates, methanol , ethanol , 1 ,2-dichloroethane ( 1 ,2-DCA) and ethylene dibromide
(EDB) by EPA Methods 8015B , 8020/8021 and/or 8260B as appropriate.
If you agree with the recommendations , conditions and assumptions noted above, you
may proceed with the third quarterly groundwater monitoring event for this year. Please
notify this office at least 48 hours prior to the initiation of any field activities .
If there is any confusion on any of these issues, please call the undersigned for
clarification . EHD desires to assist you and/or your consultant in this matter as much as
possible. Questions or comments may be directed to Nuel Henderson by mail (address
on letter head), or by telephone at (209) 468-3436 .
Donna Heran , REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Nuel C.
