Darpetro , Inc. Page 2 of 2
749 E. Charter Way 14 August 2009
Stockton , CA
AEI states in the SCM/RAP that at the meeting between AEI and EHD on 13 March 2008, AEI
had agreed to advance a boring east of the site to address a data gap. Actually, a monitoring
well (MW-15) had previously been approved for the northeast corner of Charter Way and Grant
Street, and AEI had agreed to install that well , not a boring . The EHD letters of 13 March 2008
and 05 December 2008 refer to this agreement. AEI states in SCM/RAP that they wanted to
review the data obtained from a boring advanced near the corner as part of another
investigation and make a recommendation for additional drilling , if necessary.
The boring AEI refers to is SB-3 , advanced by Geological Technics, Inc. (GTI ) near the
proposed location of MW-15 as part of the investigation of the site at 814 E . Charter Way,
commonly referred to as the Morita Brothers site . The boring was advanced to obtain grab
groundwater samples; soil samples were not collected . The grab groundwater sample from 33
to 37 feet below surface grade (bsg ) did not contain detectable concentrations of total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPHg), benzene , toluene , ethylbenzene or total xylenes
(BTEX), methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) or 1 ,2-dichloroethane (1 ,2-DCA) , but the sample from 65
to 75 feet bsg contained 1 ,300 microgram per liter (Ng/L) TPHg , 770 pg/L benzene, 6. 6 pg/L
toluene , 4. 8 pg/L ethylbenzene and 21 pg/L 1 ,2-DCA. A monitoring well is clearly needed here,
and the previously approved MW-15 should be installed as has been agreed .
Questions or comments may be directed to Nuel Henderson , Professional Geologist, at
(209) 468-3436.
Sincerely,
Nuel C. Henderson , Jr. , PG Margaro,R S
Engineering Geologist Program Coordinator
C: J . Barton — CVRWQCB ; 11020 Sun Center Dr. #200, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670
D.
