Morita Brothers
Well Abandonment Plan
Project No. 912.2
January 29, 2010
• July, 2009 -- SJC EHD directed GTI to prepare and submit Site Closure Summary
Report (Appendix B), and resume modified groundwater monitoring schedule.
• In a correspondence letter dated November 18, 2009, the Regional Board staff
reviewed the October 29, 2009 Case Closure Summary and ordered a No Further
Action Required notice.
2.0 WELL ABANDONMENT
2.1 Purpose of Well Abandonment
GTI was directed by Mr. Brian Newman, the Underground Tank Program Manager for the
California Regional Water Quality Control Board to abandon the monitoring wells located at
814 E. Charter Way, Stockton, California in a letter correspondence dated November 18th,
2009.
SJCEHD directed Frank Morita, in a letter dated December 1, 2009, to abandon eighteen (18)
monitoring wells in total. However, ownership of two of the wells, MW -II & MW -208, will
be transferred to Beneto Inc. and one well (l4y-3 was inadvertently leftf the SHCEHD
directive. See Appendix B for regulatory agency correspon*enee7etters. —
In summary, the following 17 wells will be abandoned: Eight (8) monitoring wells (MW -1,
MW -6, MW -7, MW -106, MW -107, MW -108, MW -109, and MW -209) will be drilled out,
removing the well contents and grouted. The remaining nine (9) monitoring wells (MW -2,
MW -3, MW -4, MW -5, MW -104, MW -110, MW -111 MW -202, and MW -210) will be
pressured grouted and the upper 5 feet bgs will be drilled out.
The ownership of two (2) monitoring wells, MW -11 and MW -208, have been transferred to
Beneto Inc. See Appendix A for copy of Agreement.
2.2 Abandonment Procedure
The well will be sounded to ensure that the casing is clear to total depth. If the well -is not
open to total depth (obstructed), then the well casing and surrounding construction materials
will be removed entirely by over drilling with hollow stem auger rig.
For grouted wells:
C _ .,• • A neat cement grout (containing less than 4% bentonite) will be pumped under pressure
through a tremie pipe to the bottom of the well. In this manner, the grout will isplace
the water in the well insuring that it is completely filled with grout.
• After the grout has displaced all water from the well and filled to the top, a pressure cap
will be fitted to the casing and placed under 25 lbs. pressure until stable. This will force
the cement into the filter pack. Additional grout will be pumped into the well casing to
fill up the balance.
Geological rechuda 14C. 3
7242 Well Aband WP 1 -29 -IO
