As a result, the bulk of petroleum-impacted soil at the site has
submerged below the ground water table. To aggressively remediate the site, it appears the best alternative
is to initiate an in-situ air sparging (IAS) system in conjunction with a soil vapor extraction (SVE) recovery
system. The air sparging system will mechanically strip petroleum contaminants from the dissolved and
adsorbed phases that are presently submerged below the ground water table; the stripped petroleum-
hydrocarbon contaminants will be vented into the vadose zone and recovered as vapor by the SVE recovery
system.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) proposes to begin extracting hydrocarbons utilizing an active
vacuum blower and two carbon canisters (55 -gallons each); this modification of the remediation system will
allow for the recovery and destruction of hydrocarbon vapors within the existing vadose zone at a much
lower energy cost than that of a thermal oxidizer. Progress and operation of the vacuum blower and two
carbon canisters will be evaluated in quarterly reports.
If you have any questions or require further information, please contact our office at (209) 467- 1006.
Sincerely, Bary J13A.
