I
03 August 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0121
Page 3 of 6
The Modesto, Riverbank, Turlock Lake Formations and overlying recent alluvium are the principal
source of domestic ground water in the 13 ,500 square-mile San Joaquin Valley Ground Water Basin
(Basin 5-22). This basin is drained primarily by the San Joaquin River. The nearest surface water
feature in the vicinity of the property is the Morman Slough, located approximately 5000 feet north
of the site.
2 .4. GROUND WATER DEPTH AND FLOW DIRECTION
In March 1999, ground water depth was measured at approximately 15 feet below surface grade
(bsg); groundwater gradient was calculated at 0.003 (approximately 16 feet per mile) towards the
northeast (Quarterly Report - March 1999, dated 23 June 1999, prepared by AGE).
Review of historical depth to ground water maps published by the San Joaquin County Flood
Control & Water Conservation District (FCD&WCD) dating back to 1971 suggests that ground
water depth near the site has fluctuated between approximately 15 and 40 feet bsg.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
Additional pilot tests are necessary based upon the increasing interval of impacted soil in the
saturated zone and the reduction of impacted soil in the vadose zone. AGE proposes to perform the
following tasks as part of additional remedial investigation and feasibility studies :
• Permitting, planning and pre-field work activities;
• Microbial enumeration and physicochemical analysis ;
• Six-month ORC pilot study;
• Preparation of feasibility/remedial investigation report.
3 . 1 . PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be submitted to the PHS-EHD. As required by PHS-EHD
permitting, a health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health Administration, U. S . Coast Guard and U. S . Environmental Protection Agency,
1985). Prior to drilling activities, each proposed drilling location will be clearly marked and a utility
clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
Advanced GeoEnvironnnental, Inc.
