(AGE) , on your
behalf for the above-referenced site. In the report, AGE presented data collected from
operating the dual-phase extraction (DPE) remediation system between 16 April and 19 June
2012 that included analytical results for groundwater and soil vapor samples collected during
that period .
AGE estimated that approximately 2 pounds of total petroleum hydrocarbon as gasoline
(TPH-g) and 0.008 pounds of benzene were removed from groundwater between 23 April and
19 June 2012; and approximately 211 pounds of TPH-g vapor and 9.3 pounds of benzene vapor
were removed from soil between 16 April and 11 June 2012 .
AGE has recommended that the DPE system continue operating at this site using remediation
wells EW-1 , AW-1 , AW-2 and VW-1 and removing MWA and MW-2 from the system ; and AGE
recommended removing total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-d) from the analytical list.
The EHD concurs with the recommendations proposed by AGE to remove MWA and MW-2 and
operate the DPE system using EW-1 , AW-1 , AW-2 and VWA . High concentrations of
contaminants of concern have historically been detected in groundwater collected from VW-1 ,
AW- 1 and AW-2 and incorporating these three wells into the DPE system may help reduce the
contaminant concentrations detected in these wells.
By email dated 20 March 2013, AGE proposed collecting grab groundwater samples from wells
currently utilized in the DPE system and compositing the samples in the laboratory prior to
analysis. AGE suggested that the analytical data from the composed sample would better
represent groundwater contaminant concentrations prior to remediation , noting that the DPE
system influent sample port for collecting current groundwater samples is located such that
contaminants in groundwater undergo volatilization prior to sample collection .
