I
From: Tim Cuellar [mailto:tcuellar@advcleoenv.com]
Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2013 9: 18 AM
To: Vicki McCartney [EH]
Cc: rmar[v@advgeoenv.com
Subject: RE: 1045 West Charter Way
Hi Vicki,
I will revise and resubmit report today.
I don't believe the influent DPE-water samples that have been collected to date are a reflection of
existing ground water conditions at the site. Based on my experience with DPE systems, a better
way to gauge the influent water concentrations is to collect a grab sample utilizing a bailer from
each `active' well location and to composite samples in the lab. The current DPE influent sample
port is located after the DPE central mixing chamber (knockout), and after the process pump.
While the water/soil-vapor are being extracted, the high DPE vacuum causes the dissolved portion
of what is being extracted to volatilize. I typically see an 90-95% reduction in the dissolved or
groundwater portion during the DPE process.
Previous DPE remediation samples have been collected from the dedicated influent sampling port
located after the mixing chamber/process pump. So we believe what we are seeing in groundwater
at the mixing chamber is the result of 90-95% remediation. However, what we need to evaluate is
the ` actual' progress of ground water concentrations prior to remediation; which would reflect
current groundwater conditions. So we would like to recommend collecting a grab sample from
each active well locations, and composite the sample in the laboratory.
Thanks - Tim
Timothy J.
