WR
r
KLEINFELDER
3 SCOPE OF WORK
This work plan presants a scope of work to install three onsite ground water monitoring
wells to assess the potential presences of petroleum hydrocarbon in the ground water. The
wells will be triangulated arowid the former USTs. An attempt should be made to place
one monitoring well upgradient and two monitoring wells downgradient of the
undo.-ground storage tank. It is anticipated that the ground water flow is generally to the
north or northeast. The ground water flow direction will be assessed after the wells are
installed. The proposed locations for the monitoring wells are shown on Plate 2. The
actual locations of the wells will be selected in the field.
3.1 DRILLING OF SOIL BORINGS AND SAMPLING
The three borings will be advanced with a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch
hollow stem augers. During the drilling, an experienced environmental geologist will
classify the soil, collect samples, and log the boreholes. Soil samples will be collected at 5-
foot intervas'to the bottom of each boring. Drill cuttings will be contained in 55-gallon
drums,labeled and left onsite.
Soil samples will be collected by advancing the boring to a point immediately above the
sampling depth and thep driving a Modified California Sampler lined with three brass
tubed into the undisturbed soil. The sampler will then be removed from the bottom of the
boring and the bottom (third) tube sealed with teflon and tight fitting plastic caps. The
sealed tube will be immediately stored in an iced cooler. At the end of drilling operations,
select soil samples will be delivered, under chain-of-custody to a state/EPA certified
laboratory (California Analytical Laboratories/E seco). The remaining soil samples will
be retained in refrigerated storage for future reference or analysis,
To minimize crass-contamination, augers and associated equipment will be steam cleaned
r prior to the drilling of each borehole. The sampling equipment will be cleaned with a
trisodium phosphate mash and distilled water rinse prior to the collection of each soil
sample.
F13-90-66 s
