A qualitative analysis of soil samples onsite with a photoionization detector (PID) also
indicated the presence of volatile hydrocarbons above 300 parts per million by volume
(ppmv) at the northeast corner of the excavation where the tanks were located, and in the
soil beneath the excavation at locations N-3,N4 (Plate 2). Based on the analytical results
and PIIS results, hydrocarbon contamination appears to exist at depth beneath the
excavation where the fc.mer tanks were located and laterally adjacent to the excavation.
Limitations
Kleinfelder performed this investigation in accordance with generally accepted standards of
care which exist in Northern California at this time. It should be recogrdzed that definition
and evaluation of geologic conditions is a difficult and inexact art. Judgements leading to
conclusions and recommendations are generally made with incomplete knowledge of the .
subsurface conditions present. More extensive studies, including subsurface investigations,
may be performed to reduce uncertainties. If the client wishes to continue this
investigation, Kleinfelder should be notified for additional consultation.
