The waste oil tank was previously located in the
excavated area on the south corner of the concrete pad(Plate 2).
Kleinfelder was retained on August 25, 1988 to collect three soil samples, one from the
excavated area previously octvpied by the waste oil tank, and two samples from the
excavated area previously cc`spied by the gasoline tanks (Plats 2). These samples were
collected in native soil approximately 11 feet below the ground surface at locations shown
on Plate 2 and delivered under chain-of-cuseody to ENSECO-California Analytical
1;rµ Laboratory in West Sacramento. The three soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH) and gasoline constituents, benzene, toluene, ethylben<ene and xylene
(BTEX).
The analytical results for the three soil samples are listed on Table 1. The cc,centration of
TPH in the soil samples beneath the two gasoline tanks are at hazardous levels. The
collected beneath the waste oil tank s.iould be below
analytical results for the sail sample
concentrations of concern.
the results of this preliminary sampling investigation were presented in a cover letter
reported dated September 22, 1988. Based on these.analytical results, the San Joaquin
+: Local Health District (SJI.14.D) has required the vertical and lateral extent of soil
contamination to be assessed.
Kleinfelder was requested by Nomellini to pdvide a work plan with a scope of work for the
.ateral and vertical assessment of TPH and 13'EX contamination in the gasoline tanks €
excavation.
140-83-1809
