Former J. M. Equipmenl Company Page 2 of 2
1245 West Charter Wa March 25, 2013
Stockton, California 9506
I
than 100 mg/kg of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline; therefore, the benzene
concentrations in groundwater, currently at approximately 12.5 feet bsg, may pose a
vapor intrusion hazard or risk. These significant concentrations of benzene in soil, and
the lack of soil gas data, indicate a need to complete a human health risk assessment as
well as a vapor intrusion evaluation.
On 18 January 2013, the EHD posted public notification of pending approval by this department
of the Corrective Action Plan (CAP) to implement additional remediation submitted by
Geological Technics Inc.; and by letter dated 31 January 2013, the EHD approved the CAP,
contingent on responses from the public. The EHD has received no comments from the public;
therefore, you may proceed with the implementation of the CAP.
The EHD suggests that soil samples be collected at five feet bsg, in addition to the proposed ten
and twenty feet bsg collection of soil samples for field observation and chemical analysis for
total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and
total xylenes (BTEX) during the advancement of the initial boreholes during installation of
proposed injection and monitoring wells. This additional soil data can be used to complete a
human health risk assessment and assess the need to collect soil gas samples for vapor
intrusion evaluation.
Please submit a Well and Boring Permit Application, Master File Record form, and
installation/inspection fees to the EHD for the installation of the ten injection wells and three
monitoring wells, and complete the well installations by 31 May 2013.
If you have any questions, please contact Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-9852 or by e-mail at
vmccartney(d)sicehd.com.
Sincerely,
_ /
Victoria L.
