Analytical results of the soil samples collected from soil boring#1
(SB-1)at 21.5 feet below surface grade(bsg)were 7,600 n-iilhgf ams per kilogram(mg/kg)of Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as gasoline(IPH-g),21 mg/kg of Toluene,82 ing/kg of Ethyl Benzene,and 780 mg/kg of
Xylenes. Analytical results of soil samples collected from SB-1 at 40.5 feet bsg and 50.5 feet bsg,as well as soil
samples collected from SB-2,SB-3,and SB-4 at varying depth to 35.5 feet bsg were all non detect for TPH-g
and aromatic hydrocarbons(BTEX). Analytical results of the grab water sample collected from SB-1 at 67 feet
bsg were 780 micrograms per liter(jig/1)of TPH-g,19 ltg/l of Toluene,20µg/l of Ethylbenzene,and 120
µg/L of Xylenes. Oxygenates, 1,2-dicboloroethane(1,2-DCA) and ethylene dibromide(EDB)were not
detected in any soil or grab water samples.
Historical groundwater low according to San Joaquin Countylood Control 1986 Lines of Equal Depth map is
about 30 feet to 40 feet bsg,and historical groundwater high according to San Joaquin County Flood Control
1986 Lines of Equal Depth map is about 75 feet bsg. Recent oundwater monitoring at a nearby property at
1419 Charter Way indicated the general groundwater flow direction is to the southeast.
EHD does not agree with the Cambria's recommendation for case closure at this time. SB-1 was advanced at
the old dispenser area where petroleum hydrocarbon contamination was reported(soil sample P-1)according
to Underground Storage Tank Report dated August 18,1999. Sine no soil or water samples were collected in the
groundwater flow downgradient direction south and southeast of SB-1,the extent of the soil and groundwater
contamination has not been defined_ Submit a work plan to E,HD that will define the extent of the soil and
groundwater contamination, including installation of monito g wells to determine the site specific gradient
and the impact to groundwater.
EHD directs a 2000-foot well receptor survey be performed i Ls soon as possible. EHD recommends using the
checklist in Appendix B,Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations as a guideline for obtaining the data
required to justify site closure.
Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmenta Health Department
(' `y Margaret agorio,REHS
Je frey Wong,Senior RENS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
C: CRWQCB,Central Valley Region—Marty Hartzell
C: Cambria—Joe Neely
