e
I
I
Former She11 Service Station
1313 East Charter Way
Stockton,California
I
i
Site Description: The subject site is located on the northeast corner of East Charter Way and 1
Airport Way in a mixed commercial/residential area of Stockton, California. The former site
layout included two station buildings, three fuel underground storage tanks (USTs), and four
dispenser islands. The subject site is currently a vacant lot.
UST Removal. On April 29, 1999 three 10,000-g Ilon single-wall steel gasoline USTs were h
removed from the site. The tanks were found to be in good condition with no obvious '
indications of failure. Soil samples were collected from the bottom of the UST excavation and
beneath the former fuel dispensers and product pipir g. A total of 14 soil samples were collected.
1
All of these samples were analyzed for total pe oleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg),
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (B ), and fuel oxygenates (methyl tertiary butyl j
ether [MTBE], tertiary butyl alcohol [TBA], di isopropyl ether [DIPE], ethyl tertiary butyl ether
[ETBE], and tertiary amyl methyl ether[TAME].
i
None of the soil samples contained detectable levels of benzene, toluene, or fuel oxygenates.
Nine of the 14 soil samples did not contain detectable levels of TPHg, BTEX, and fuel
oxygenates. Three of the soil samples contained only xylenes at concentrations ranging from
' 0.0159 to 0.0296 milligrams per kilogram (mg/Kg) The remaining two soil samples contained
TPHg at concentrations of 4.59 and 54.7 m g. The results of this investigation are
documented in the .Cambria Environmental Tec ology Inc. (Cambria) August 18, 1999
Underground Storage Tank Removal Report.
Site Investigation 2001: Four soil borings (SB-1 tirough SB-4) were drilled at the site during
July 2001 to assess the vertical and horizontal extent of gasoline constituents in the soil and to
determine if groundwater beneath the site was i patted. Soil analytical results from.this
investigation suggested the horizontal extent of i acted soil is delineated and confined to the
vicinity of boring SB-1. The groundwater sample collected from boring SB-1 contained 780
micrograms per liter (µg/1) TPHg. and did not contain benzene or MTBE. The results of this
investigation are documented in Cambria's November 7, 2001 Site Investigation Report.
Site Investigation 2002: During December 2002, five groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1
through MW-5) were installed at the site to monitor shallow groundwater. Soil samples
collected from the well borings during this inves igation did not contain detectable levels of
gasoline constituents. Groundwater samples collet ed from the wells did not contain detectable
241511 Page 1 of 2
