Ramcon Standard Procedure
Standard Procedure 8 Revl 7/95
Water Grab Sample Collection from Soil Borings and Hydropunch Apparatus
See Also Procedure: Drilling and Sampling with Hollow-Stem Auger Equipment, Sample
Handling, Sample Equipment Decontamination, Quality Assurance/Quality
Control
Limitations: These procedures have been developed and adopted for utilization
primarily for the assessment of fuel and motor oil constituents at
underground storage tank or fuel spill sites.
The water samples collected and subsequently analyzed by this
method are a "snapshot" of groundwater conditions at the time and
place of collection. They are effectively utilized as a screening tool
to evaluate lateral limits of groundwater contaminants and in the
subsequent location of properly constructed and developed
monitoring wells. The method is not designed, nor is it intended to
provide comprehensive gradient information. Our experience with
the method indicates that samples are frequently cloudy and contain
silt. Incorporation of this material in water samples is often
unavoidable. Particular attention and care should be devoted to
sample analysis under these limitations, including matrix interference
with petroleum hydrocarbons and, particularly with false positives in
metals analysis.
Equipment:
-Iced Insulated Cooler -Hydropunch sampler
4 liter amber glass and 40 ml VOA containers -Licensed WellDriller
-New, polyethylene rope from a sealed w/HSA drilling equipment
package -Sample Labels
-Polyethylene disposable bailer or -Chain of Custody
stainless steel bailer, small diameter -Indelible Ink Marker
-Hydropunch well points and screen -Field Note Book
Stipulation - Borings are regulated by code and permits are required in most localities. Grout
inspection by the regulation agency is typically required and is scheduled in advance.
