Julian Munoz
February 11, 1987 3 1USSASSOCLATES
TASK 2 - SOIL BORING AND SAMPLING OUTSIDE THE TANK CLUSTER AN
ANALYSIS OF THE SAMPLES D CHEMICAL
To meet local regulatory agency requirements, it is necessary to
determine the vertical apd horizontal extent of fuel hydrocarbons outside the
tank cluster. To do this we will drill two soil borings on each side of the
rectangular excavation for a maximum of eight borings. We anticipate shallow
borings since ground water should be encountered within 20 feet of the ground
surface. During the drilling of each borehole, samples will be collected
every five feet to determine the characteristics of subsurface materials. #
These unsaturated soils will also be tested with a
portable organic vapor
analyzer (OVA) . If high concentrations of volatiles are found in these
samples , they will be submitted to the analytic laboratory
quantification. Once ground water is encountered, one saturated soil sample
will be collected and submitted to the laboratory for chemical analysis. . All
laboratory analyses will be by GC/FID for THC and BTX. The cost for rush
turnaround chemical analysis, which can be performed if necessary, is itemized
in our budget breakdown.
TASK 3 - REPORT PREPARATION
5
Once analytic results have been reported to WA, a letter report will be
prepared documenting our field activities and findings. It will summarize the
results of the subsurface investigation and will address options for, further
work if necessary. This report p it will include.
i
. O Description- of tasks performed; p
o Lithologic logs of tangy: excavation and soil borings;
a
O A cross-section of site geology; ''
o A table summarizing soil sample analytic results; and
O A map of the estimated distribution of fuel hydrocarbons .
The vertical and horizontal extent of fuel hydrocarbons will wbe estimated from
the soil boring and sampling data. A draft report will be furnished for your
1
