Approximately 20ubic yards of
soil and pea gravel were generated during excavation of underground
storage tanks. The excavated materials has been treated by aeration on-site.
According to the ,report, the treated material now contains only low levels of
total fuel hydrocarbons (NU to 23 ppm), and very low concentrations of mutals
(apparently background levels). Bioassay testing indicates the material is
not hazardous or toxic. The operator has requested permission to redistribute
the treated suil and pea gravel on-site.
The primary concern with proposed redistribution of the treated soil -is
whether the hydrocarbon constituents have been effectively removed. Based on
the information provided, the hydrocarbon concentrations appear to have been
reduced to levels which should not pose a significant threat to water quality.
Therefore, we do not object to the proposed redistribution of this material.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 361-5731.
-THOMAS D.
