NJSAFEWAYINC.
5918 STONERIDGE MALL ROAD
PLEASANTON, CA 94588-3229
TELEPHONE: (925)467-3845
FACSIMILE: (925)467-3126 "•
C
March 18, 2002
Mr. Jeffrey C.F. Wong
San Joaquin County-Environmental Health Division
304 E. Weber Ave.,Third Floor ON-
Stockton, CA 95202
SUBJECT: Former Safeway Meat Processing Plant, 1111 Navy Drive, Stockton
Underground Tank Closure Information
Site Code 1194
Dear Mr. Wong,
Enclosed is a copy of the August 10, 1998 closure report from Emcon, entitled Site Closure
Report for the Former Safeway Meat Packing Plant, 1111 Navy Drive, Stockton, California. You
had indicated to Safeway that a copy of the report was missing from County's files.
Safeway is again requesting site closure. Following submittal of the above-referenced report in
1998, we received no response from the County or Regional Water Quality Control Board, other
than a request for Safeway to submit a Section 25297.15(a)/25299.37.2(a) letter to the site's
owner and a certification to your department. The.letter and certification were sent on June 17,
1999.
Safeway would like to close the existing 3-wells at the site. One well, within Navy Drive, has
been paved over by the City of Stockton. Its location and condition cannot be easily determined
because it is covered by at least 2 inches of asphalt paving.
Please call if you have any questions or would like to discuss our closure request.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey L. Brown, CIH
Director,Environmental Affairs
Enclosure
cc: Lawrence Jackson(w/o enclosure)
Christine Connelly(w/o enclosure)
Valerie Lewis(w/o enclosure)
Recycled
®Paper
