San Joaquin Street
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Re: Former Safeway Meat Plant
Navy 1111 Na Drive .Stockton
Quarterly Report -Fourth Quarter 1996
Dear Mr. Sasson,
This a report of activities in the fourth quarter of 1996 at the former Safeway Stockton
Meat Plant.
Your letter(dated September 27, 1996)concerning the meeting of the TRC was received
and reviewed. One recommendation was to re-institute quarterly groundwater
monitoring. Safeway issued a request for proposal to perform groundwater monitoring in
the three existing wells (MW-4 , MW-5, and MW-6). Emcon was selected as the
contractor. However, in performing a preliminary site inspection, we determined that
MW-6, located within the Navy Drive right-of--way, had been paved over by the City of
Stockton in fall/winter of 1995 and was still covered with asphalt paving. Because MW-6
was not accessible during the fourth quarter, no ground water sampling was performed.
We verbally notified you regarding the inaccessibility of MW-6. With your assistance, we
learned that the City of Stockton will require Safeway to locate MW-6, raise and
reconstruct the well cover, and reapply for an encroachment permit to perform the work.
Safeway is presently reassessing this task and working with the City of Stockton and San
Joaquin County on the scope of work required for.repairing MW-6.
®
Recycled
Paper
