Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
SUBJECT: Addendum to Workplan for Soil and Groundwater
Investigation of Former Underground Tank Site at the Safeway
Meat Packing Facility Located at 1111 Navy Drive, Stockton, CA
Dear Ms. Hinson:
This letter constitutes an Addendum to the Workplan previously submitted
to your office for the subject site on March 4, 1991. Activities proposed in the
Workplan were completed on March 7, 1991, and a Site Assessment Report
(SAR) was submitted on May 9, 1991. In the SAR we recommended that
additional investigation of soil and groundwater be performed following the
detection of diesel in soil and, groundwater samples collected on March 7,
1991. The purpose of this Addendum is to review the investigation findings
to date, and outline a scope of work for further investigation of the diesel
impacted soil and groundwater at the site.
Previous Findings
Figures. A-1 and A-2 show the locations and concentrations of Total
Petroleum=Hydrocarbons (TPH) detected to date at the site in soil and
groundwater. Detections of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil have been in
one area immediately southwest of the former tank locations. The only
significant detection of petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater was also in
this same area.
Groundwater flow direction at the site probably varies seasonally, but
appears to have had a southerly component during the recent past.
Groundwater flow in October 1989 was reportedly east southeast. ERM-
West found the flow direction to be south on March 7 1991 and March 2
,. 8,
1991. In addition, none of the existing monitoring wells situated north, east
and west of the former tank locations have shown any significant detections
of petroleum hydrocarbons in the groundwater.
TIN
An affiliate of The Environmental Resources Management Group with offices worldwide lflo
