FAX:916/638-8385
July 2, 1992
Mr. Harlin Knoll
Public Health. Services
Environmental Health Division
County of San Joaquin
1601 Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95201
Subject: Work Plan for Well Abandonment
Beacon Station No. 696
2448 West Kettieman Lane, Lodi, California
Delta Project No. 40-90-839
Dear Mr. Knoll:
Delta Environmental Consultants, Inc. (Delta), is conducting a hydrogeologic investigation for
Ultramar Inc. (Ultramar) at 2448 West Kettleman Lane, Lodi, San Joaquin County, California
(Figure 1). The investigation is intended to evaluate the extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and
ground water beneath the site.
Delta has been requested by Ultramar to properly abandon three ground water monitoring wells at
the site. The wells do not contain water and are likely to be damaged by road construction activities
currently in progress adjacent to the site. The locatio s of the three wells are shown in Figure 2, and
include monitoring wells MW-9, MW-11, and MW-12. Monitoring well MW-9 is 40 feet deep and
is screened from 30 to 40 feet below the ground surfa e. Monitoring wells MW-11 and MW-12 are
50 feet deep and are screened from 35 to 50 feet telow the ground surface. Each of the three
monitoring wells is constructed of 2-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC well casing.
The wells will be abandoned by pressure grouting. This method will involve backfilling the well
casing with neat cement supplemented with approximately 5% bentonite. The well casing will then
be pressurized to approximately 10-15 psi to drive the grout through the well screen and into the void
spaces of the filter pack. Each well will be grouted to within 2 feet of the ground surface.
Enclosed you will find two well abandonment permits and two checks for $60 dollars. We anticipate
performing the work as soon as possible after approval is obtained from your office.
Delta Delivers Solutions
