The investigation
was conducted to determine the ground water gradient and the extent of
the hydrocarbons encountered during the original investigation. This
investigation was discussed in a letter report dated March 14, 1985.
On-site work commenced at 3 p.m. , March 26, 1985, and was continued the
next day until 1:30 p.m. , at which time five borings within the property
boundaryhad been drilled. An additional follow-up boring o
p g t the five
drilled on March 26 and 21 was necessary outside the property boundary
to determine the northwesterly extent of the plume. This boring was
drilled March 29, 1985. Boring locationS are shown in Figure 1.
The soil borings were drilled with a t uck-mounted 8-inch hollow-stem
auger to a depth of 20 feet (MW-4 and MW-5) and 40 feet (MW-6, MW-7,
MW-8, and MW-9) . All
six borings were completed as monitoring wells of the type shown on the
individual bore logs, Plates 2-7.
Ground water was encountered in the deep borings (MW-6, MW-7, MW-8, and
MW-9) at a depth of approximately 38 feet. A distinct petroleum odor
was detected in the ground water in MW6 and MW-7, accompanied by LEL
readings of 5 and 45 percent, respective y.
