EAST HIGHWAY 12 ,
LODI
We recently received and reviewed yozr revised quarterly ground
water monitoring report. As we requested by phone on 8 July
1988, a revised report was to be prepared in which the problems
we discussed would be corrected. The revised report still does
not resolve the problems of the original (which was two months
overdue) . Our hope is that, by bringing our concerns about this .
monitoring report to your attention, similar errors will be
avoided in future monitoring reports.
i
Our specific comments about the report are as follows:
- Many monitoring wells were not sampled because they were dry
or there were obstructions in the wells (pumps) . This
rinformation is still missing from the report text and could
- information
ascertained-°by readiny tie cra_-n_of_-_ustodv_forms.
Your plots of benzene concentration in water are misleading
for two reasons: (1) Benzene concentration in ground water
is not a 3-dimensional parameter, and (2) The values
assumed for benzene when free product is present are not
accurate (Benzene solubility in water is 1780 mg/1) . Your
own data shows benzene contamination in water in millions of
ppb.
The statement about how you will treat ND values for
computer modeling and graphs is wrong. It either suggests
that an attempt is being made to deliberately present
misleading data, or that whoever is responsible does not
grasp the concept of detection limits.
