Box 190 ENVIRoM
Lodi, CA 95241 ENTAL HEALTJJ
PERMIT/SERVICE,S,
COMMENTS ON THE GROUNDWATER CONTAMINATION ASSESSMENT REPORT AND
FINAL REMEDIATION PLAN PREPARED BY DU PONT FOR 800 E. HIGHWAY 12 ,
LODI
Thank you for submitting your draft plans for soil and ground
water biodegradation for our review. The two volumes prepared by
Du Pont and submitted to Regional Board staff during a meeting on
10 September 1987 are overall Well prepared documents. Your
geologic interpretations, based primarily on information availble
to previous consultants - are well one.
However, the "Final Rem6diation Plan" is premature because the
problem assessment is not yet com lete. We have some comments,
noted several minor editorial problems, and some points we wish
to have clarified.
COMMENTS ON THE TWO VOLUMES SUBMITTED:
1- Waste Dischar"ge Requirements may be required for
introducing nitrates, phosphates, and hydrogen peroxide
into the groun" d water if the extraction system is not
totally effective and allows them to migrate to your
monitor wells,!
2- Which laboratory performed the soil analyses for
samples from B-1, 2,3,4 and MW-19, 20,21 and what are the
detection limits and QA/QC procedures for these
analyses.
3- New monitor well installation (including redrills) must
be supervised by a California Registered Geologist or
Certified Engineering Geologist.
4- The operating recovery well RW-1 has a radius of
influence of about 80 feet (Figures 12-15) . It appears
that a minimum of three recovery wells properly spaced
may be necessary to control contaminated ground water
movement at the site.
5- NW-11 was reported as having a slight sheen on the
water in June ,, 1987 (Table 4, page 33) so your statement
that the welli;is clean is apparently incorrect.
j
