Earnest TEL. NO: 209-583-5571
BACKGROUND:
Ultramar purchased site from Conoco in July 1990. Several
ground-water monitoring wells had been installed by Conoco
(formerly Kayo Oil Company) at and near the site. At the time
of site purchase, all but one well (MW-20) was dry. A vapor
extraction system was operated at the site until the end of
December 1990. The thermox unit was then removed and
permitting for a catalytic unit was initiated.
In February 1991, three additional ground-water monitoring
wells (MW-34, MW-35, and MW-36) were installed along the
south, east, and west boundaries of the site in an effort to
evaluate both ground-water gradient and water quality. Soil
and ground-water analyses showed nondetectable to low TPHg and
benzene concentrations.
SUMMARY OF THIS QUARTER'S ACTIVITIES:
A permit application for a catalytic incinerator was submitted
to the APCD for processing and the unit began operation on
August 23, 1991. As of October 15, 1991 a total of 2,222
pounds of hydrocarbons had been destroyed (equivalent to 355
gallons of gasoline).
As mentioned above, three wells were installed in February
1991 and this is the initial sampling quarter of groundwater
monitoring.
f
a rtua]ir and Scn;rc
A t alba.of the Ultramar Group of Companies
111trarrlar
