IX B SITE CLOSURE EVALUATION REPORT
Beacon Station No.696
2448 West Kettleman Lane
Lodi,California
' Delta Project No.D093-916
Page 3
' According to the DWR (1967), recharge to the Victor Formation is by rainfall, return irrigation, and from waters of
traversing streams (primarily the Mokelumne River to the north). Regional ground water flow is to the south, away
' from the Mokelumne River, and toward Stockton, where agricultural pumping has resulted in a significant subsidence
of the ground water table (DWR, 1967). Ground water flow direction, established from quarterly monitoring events,
' is generally south and is consistent with the regional ground water flow direction. Due to the limited thickness of the
Victor Formation, most ground water supply wells penetrate it and extract water from deeper formations.
1
During the period of 1985 to the present, ground water elevations have steadily decreased (Table 1). This decrease is
' due to ground water pumping for agricultural activities and domestic use. The importation of water has largely
replaced the ground water pumping in the western portion of the valley. The main source of recharge to the water
table is infiltration and percolation of imported surface water applied to irrigated lands. Recharge was formerly
supplied primarily by streams and rivers entering the valley. Most aquifer discharge, previously occurring as
evapotranspiration and seepage to streams, is now from pumping wells (Johnson, 1989). The current
interrelationships of topography, pumping, and artificial recharge can cause local ground water flow to be
complicated and difficult to predict. Presently there are no plans to enhance aquifer recharge in the area of the site
(personal communication with DWR).
2.5 Site Vicinity Well Inventory
' An inventory of domestic and agricultural supply wells in the vicinity of the site was conducted by IT Corporation in
May 1985. A total of 22 wells were located within an approximate one-half mile radius of the site at that time.
' Copies of the well inventory and well location map are presented in Appendix A
' 2.6 Local Water Sunnly
The City of Lodi (City) Public Works Department, Water/Wastewater Division is the major supplier of public water
' for the City. Ground water is the major source of the public water. Most of the water supply wells draw ground water
from either deep portions of the Victor Formation or from the underlying Laguna Formation at depths from 150 to
460 feet. According to the City Water/Wastewater Division, the nearest municipal water supply well is City Well No.
20, which is located approximately 1,800 feet east of the site which is cross-gradient relative to the site.
