A summary of significant features from the Sanborn Fire maps is presented in the following
table.
Historical Insurance Map Summary
Year Summary of Observations
1895 In the 1895 map, there appears to be businesses on the site, possibly including
warehouses and a restaurant. The northwest comer of the site shows the Russ
House. North of the site, the Stockton & Copperopolis Railroad traverses Weber
Avenue. The block east of the site appears to be developed with businesses. No
coverage is provided west or south of the site.
1917 The present location of East Weber Avenue is listed as East Weber Levee and
"Industrial Tracks." Railroad tracks appear to be present on the levee. Several of
the structures shown on the site are described as "storage" and may possibly be
warehouses. There is also a restaurant shown. No coverage is provided west of the
site.
1950 On the northeast comer of the site is a gas station ("Gas & Oil"). Directly north of
the site is E. Weber (levee) Ave, with industrial railroad tracks on the levee. The
Stockton Channel is north of the levee. Between the levee and the channel are
"Freight Sheds," "Colberg Wharf," and a small office. The Stockton Hotel is located
northeast of the site. No coverage is provided west or south of the site.
1972 The site is shown as a parking lot with a small office for the parking lot attendant.
Directly south of the lot is one structure. Directly west of the site is a structure
currently occupied by Bank of America. Directly north of the site is a parking lot.
No coverage is provided west of the site.
3.2.3 Local Street Directories
Versar-McLaren/Hart prepared a Phase 1 ESA for the property directly north of
the site. Information from that report was used to determine findings of potential
environmental significance. Based on Versar-McLaren/Hart's review of local street
directories(Polk Directories), they report that the findings of potential environmental
significance for the property are the following:
12 East Weber Avenue — Growers Fertilizer Company from mid 1920's to late
1920's or early 1930's (not listed in 1932). This location would be toward the west
end of the block along Weber Avenue.
B&V Project 6204 1.100 3-3
NA6204 I Thase-Ldoc(1/27/99)
