' File: W-2017-1/11 : 308
1 June 26 , 1986
Page 2
o Developing and sampling the ground water monitoring
well .
' o Presenting the analytical results obtained from the
soil and ground water samples .
' IV. FIELD ACTIVITIES
' A. Soil Boring
A single exploratory soil boring was drilled on site to
a depth of 76 . 5 feet . The boring was drilled on April 21
t and April 22 , 1986 using a truck-mounted Acker AD-II drill
rig equipped with eight-inch outside diameter hollow stem
augers. The location of the monitoring well (MW-1 )
' installed in the soil boring is shown on Plate No. 2 .
During the drilling, a Kleinfelder geologist classified
the subsurface soils , collected soil samples , and logged the
borehole. A description of the soils encountered are
uresented on Plate Nos . 4 through 6 , with a copy of the
Unified Soils Classification System (used to identify the
' soil ) included as Plate No. 3 . The soils encountered during
drilling consisted of silty clay , sandy clay, sandy silt ,
clayey sand, silty sand, and sand.
' Ground water was first encountered at approximately 55
feet below the ground surface at the time of drilling.
' B. Monitoring Wells
A ground water monitoring well (MW-1 ) was constructed
in the soil 'boring at the completion of drilling and logging
of the boring. The ground water well was completed with
two-inch inside diameter , flush threaded joint , Schedule 40 ,
' PVC pipe . Well screen sections were perforated with 0 . 020-
inch factory-cut slots . The blank section was set 0 to 45
feet below the ground surface, and the screened section was
:set45 feet to 75 feet below the ground surface . The PVC
' pipe was steam-cleaned prior to installation. The annular
suace between the pipe and the wall of the boring was
backfilled with #2 Monterey sand approximately 2 . 6 feet
above the top of the perforated section. A two-foot
bentonite plug was placed above the sand pack to provide a
seal against surface water infiltration. The remaining
annular space was filled to the surface with a neat cement
' slurry of 5 parts bentonite powder to 100 harts Portland
