HSS, Resource Recovery Section, SRPD <br /> From: Tim Naprawa, HSS <br /> Date: July 21, 1995 <br /> Subject: OFFSITE USE OF FERROUS SULFATE FROM SUMIDEN WIRE <br /> PRODUCTS INC, 1412 EL PINAL, STOCKTON <br /> T did an routine PBR inspection of the above facility on 07/13/95 . <br /> This facility was Lhe subject of a previous enforcement action due to <br /> improper management of waste from their wastewater treatment unit . During <br /> the inspection, it was discovered the facility is sending ferrous sulfate <br /> offsite without a manifest . The ferrous sulfate is generated from <br /> treatment of sulfuric acid. The sulfuric acid is used to remove rust from <br /> steel wire the facility uses in the manufacturing of braided cable. it <br /> appears the acid, when spent, is an K062 waste. The treatment process <br /> uses a chiller to drop out ferrous sulfate crystals, which are then sent <br /> offsite without a manifest. The crystals are dry when sent, uniformly low <br /> in metals content and undergo no further treatment prior to shipment. <br /> According to information provided by one of the supervisors at the <br /> facility, the ferrous sulfate is used as a water treatment chemical, sent <br /> through a third party to the end user.
