. 41
SWPC
Letitia Briggs REHS
Public Health Services, San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division
445 N. San Joaquin Street
PO Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201-2009
08/18/1995
Hazardous Waste Generator Program
Dear Ms Briggs,
Subsequent to the Department's inspection of the Sumiden Wire Products Corp. premises
on July 13, 1995, we confirm that the violations outlined in your report have been
corrected.
Illegal Operations : item 10, 66262.11 CCR
WIG solids hazardous waste determinations [lime/borax].
WIG solids were sent to Twining Laboratories Inc, an independent testing lab, for STLC
and TTLC profiles. Results are given in Appx 1, and as they are below the thresholds of
22CCR: 66261.24 and Title 26:22-66261.24, SWPC are claiming that this is a non-
hazardous waste, and does not require to be disposed of in Kettleman Hills, but can be
disposed of in a local land-fill.
The WIG/ drawing soap floor sweepings at present go into a dropbox labeled as
hazardous waste, and we now have in our possession a profile from EarthCO, of mixed
solids taken from the dropbox, which also shows that the waste is non-hazardous. This
profile was in our possession at the time of inspection, but could not be located, so SWPC
feel that this was not a violation, except perhaps as a technicality.
Storage : item 20, 66262.34
1 There were drums with slightly opened lids containing SODA ASH (not FlyAsh),
and is known as sodium carbonate, and is a pepared commodity.
The words"SODA ASH" has now been stenciled on the side of the drum instead of the
handwritten label that was visible on the day of the inspection.
