Ferrous sulfate is typically used in water <br /> treatment, fertilizer, feed supplement, paint pigment, and other <br /> applications. <br /> Yt is our undorotanding that the United States Environmentall, <br /> T,rotection Agenoy (V6BPA) Would not regulate ferrous sulfate <br /> crystals because they do not exhibit a characteristic of a <br /> hazardoua wast# vithin federal waste characterization guidolines. <br /> IE the crystals did exhibit a characIteristic of a hazardous Waste <br /> under the federal guidelines, they would probably not be <br /> regulated as a waste since they would ba considarad alay-product <br /> that i'a to be reclaimed (Section 262.2, Title 40 of the Code of <br /> Federal Regul.ntians) . <br /> Ferrous sulfate crystals have been shown to be toxic at <br /> levein which are regulated in California. Tharetore, recovered <br /> crystals are rogulated as hazardous wants in California unless <br /> they are excluded from regulation as provided in the recyclable <br /> material exclusions or exemptions found in Section 25143 .2, <br /> Chapter 6. 5, Division 20 of the Health and Safety Coda (HSC) . <br /> The recyclable material. prov Cions• contain two provisions <br /> that wuuld allow cxIte recyalingto oaour without further <br /> authorization from the Department.
