<br /> The Corteses Bill (AB2013), enacted in 1983, required registration of all underground storage tanks
<br /> (UST) with the State Water Quality Control Board by July 1, 1984. About 176,000 tanks and surface
<br /> impounds were registered between 1984 and 1987. An amendment (AB 1413) was passed in 1987,
<br /> effectively removing the State Board from the registration process starting January 1, 1988. The
<br /> data reflects the information collected by the state between 1984 and 1987 as well as 1995 and
<br /> includes all tanks and surface impounds in use or closed between 1974 and 1995.
