k% v
Ms. Margaret Lagorio
November 6, 1996
Page 2
It should be noted that SECOR has conducted a Phase I investigation and no record of
release of any fuel hydrocarbons were found in any government records for the subject site
or for the surrounding properties.
The following information provides a description of the scope of services to be provided to
complete the proposed work.
Drilling and Soil Sampling
During the advancement of each boring, soil samples will be collected for potential chemical
analysis at 5-foot intervals or less, utilizing an 18-inch long, 21/2-inch diameter, split-spoon
sampler, sleeved with three 6-inch long brass inserts. Sampling will be performed by driving
the sampler into the undisturbed soil beyond the cutter head of the lead auger with a 140-
pound hammer free falling from a height of 30 inches. The sampler will be driven into the
underlying soils until 18 inches of penetration is achieved or until refusal, e.g., 50 hammer
blows to drive the sampler 6 inches into the underlying soils. Upon advancement of the
sampler to the full 18-inch length (or refusal), the augers will be advanced around the
sampler, and the sampler brought to the surface. The last sample collected for potential
chemical analysis will be collected at, or right above, the measured groundwater table in the
suspected capillary fringe zone. Below that depth, soil samples will be collected for logging
purposes only.
Upon extracting the sampler, a photoionization detector (PID) will be used to monitor the
soil for volatile organic compound (VOC) vapors. The soil will then be classified in
accordance with Unified Soil Classification System (USCS)visual methods. A summary of
VOC readings obtained and USCS classifications will be presented on boring logs, which will
be included with the final report.
After USCS classification and VOC evaluation, the samples will be packaged by the placing
of 2-mil thick Teflon®sheets over the ends of the lowermost brass tube, capping with a tight
fitting plastic cap (secured to the tube using non-hydrocarbon containing tape), labeled, and
placed in an iced cooler pending delivery to the laboratory. All samples retained by this
procedure will be recorded on Chain-of-Custody Records, which will accompany the samples
to the laboratory.
.nN 4NO7-0 7-01
Aa r\noy96\gw-i nata.pin
