The
wells were installed under the supervision of John P. Cummings &Associates (JPA).A total
of 23 soil samples were analyzed by Sparger Technology, Inc. (SPI) for TPH as Stoddard
' solvent and BTE&X.
No TPH as stoddard solvent or BTE&X were detected in the soil samples collected during
' the installation of MW-1 or MW-2. However, TPH as Stoddard solvent was detected in
samples from MW-3 at concentrations up to 2,000 ppm (MW-3 16'); toluene, ethylbenzene
and xylenes were detected in samples from MW-3 at concentrations up to 51 ppm (xylenes,
MW-3 16'). The analytical results of the soil samples are summarized in Table 2.
Groundwater samples were collected from each well on November 4, 1993 by representatives
of JPA. The samples were analyzed for TPH as stoddard solvent and BTE&X by SPI. TPH
and BTE&X were detected in each well. The analytical results of groundwater samples are
included in Table 4.
2.4 Monthly Monitoring
In a letter dated December 31, 1993, the San Joaquin County Public Health Services -
Environmental Health Division(PHS/EHD)recommended that"monthly measurements and
gradient calculations be initiated for the site to verify the groundwater direction."
