PROCEDURES <br /> 4 1 DRILLING AND SAMPLING <br /> For the dnlhng and sampling of soil bonngs/vapor extraction wells, the following procedures will be <br /> performed <br /> I <br /> 1 Prepare a Site Health and Safety Plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health <br /> Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities - Prepared by National Institute for <br /> Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U S Coast <br /> Guard and U S Environmental Protection Agency, October 1985 <br /> 2 Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any'work <br /> 3 Advance two (2) soil probings at the site using a van-mounted drill ng equipped with 2-inch <br /> diameter probe rods Each probing will be advanced to a depth of 35 feet below surface grade <br /> (bsg) Each probing will be completed as an in-situ air sparging well <br /> 4 Obtain soil samples in each probing five-foot intervals using a Geoprobe soil sampling <br /> assembly loaded with four pre-cleaned brass sleeves <br /> 5 Preserve soil in the second brass sleeve by covering both ends with Teflon tape or aluminum <br /> sheets, capping, and sealing with tape <br /> 6 Label and log soil samples on a chain-of-custody form <br /> 7 Store the samples under ice and transport the samples in a chilled container to a State- <br /> certified laboratory for analysis <br /> 8 Log soil samples in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System <br /> 9 Screen soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization <br /> detector(PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene <br /> 10 Decontaminate sampling equipment and probing rods in an alconox solution and nnse twice <br /> with water prior to each sampling run <br /> 11 Each IAS well will be completed using five feet of 0 75-inch diameter slotted PVC screen <br /> from depths of 30 to 35 feet bsg Blank PVC will be used from surface grade to 30 feet <br /> Sand will be used as a filter pack from depths of 28 to 35 feet A five-foot bentonite plug will <br /> then be placed from depths of 23 to 28 feet IAS well design is illustrated in Figure 3 - Well <br /> Design <br /> 12 Analyze selected soil samples for TPH-g and BTE&X in accordance with EPA methods <br /> 8015/5030 and 80201602, respectively <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br />
