We have reviewed the 16 January
2001 Comments on Draft Monitoring and Reporting Program (Letter) submitted on your behalf by
Ground Zero Analysis, Inc (GZA). The Letter provides one comment on the draft monitoring and
reporting program (MRP), requesting a change from quarterly to semi-annual monitoring. We did not
make the requested change because of the increasing contaminant levels in MW -6 and MW -7, and the
varying contaminant levels in MW -3, MW -5 and MW -9 reported the first two quarters of 2001, and
during 2000. Quarterly monitoring should provide additional information on seasonal variations in
contaminant levels, and support data that will be generated from the proposed deep monitoring well. We
have also changed the due dates for the semi-annual and annual reports by one day. Also note that we
have added one round of analysis for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to the MRP, in order to verify
that a release has not occurred from the solvent tank. Analysis for VOCs will be required in the MRP if
VOCs are detected in any wells.
If you have any questions, you may contact James Barton at (916) 255-3050.
LESLIE S.
