PRE-TANK REPLACEMENT Site Assessment Results
880 VICTOR ROAD LODI, CA.
Aegis Project No. 89-014
Page 1
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report describes the pre-tank replacement Site assessment results
at a Shell Oil Company (Shell) retail gasoline station located at 880
Victor Road, Lodi, San Joaquin County, California (Figure 1) . This
assessment was requested by Shell in preparation for the replacement
of underground fuel-storage-tanks located at the Site.
1. 1 Purpose
The purpose of the investigation was to:
o Characterize the Site subsurface and hydrologic conditions.
o Assess the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons (if any) in the
soil beneath the Site.
o Verify the soil conditions at the location of the new underground
fuel-storage-tank location.
o Evaluate the need for further assessment and/or mitigation of
petroleum constituents in soil and ground water beneath the Site,
prior to the tank closure/replacement.
1.2 Scope
The scope of work conducted during the assessment is summarized below.
o On August 24 and 25, 1989 a total of fourteen soil borings were
advanced using hollow-stem-auger techniques to depths ranging
from 11 feet to 26 feet below grade in the area of the existing
underground fuel-storage-tanks and piping, and the proposed
underground fuel-storage-tank locations.
o Soil samples were recovered at five foot intervals in soil
borings B-1 through B-4 beginning at five feet below grade
according to the methods described in section 4 . 0.
o Soil samples were recovered from the bottom of the remaining soil
borings and soil types were described from grab samples collected
from the augers.
o Soil samples were recovered in brass tubes according to methods
described in Appendix A.
o Recovered soil samples were classified according to the Unified
Soil Classification System and a log of each soil boring was
generated.
