Prior to destruction, Upgradient may decide to purge the well and collect a
water sample for analysis; this will depend on the results of the drilling. i
3.0 PROCEDURES
1)Notify San Joaquin EHD at least 48 hours prior to field work
2)Drill one vertical boring within the dispenser excavation usinga hollow-stem auger drilling rig.
Terminate the boring at the groundwater interface or when no hydrocarbon contamination is
evident, whichever is shallower. E
3) Collect discrete soil samples at 5-foot intervals, using a California modified split-spoon sampler
I` loaded with three 6" brass sample sleeves. p
4)Preserve the bottom sleeve by covering the ends with aluminum foil.or Teflon sheets, capping, and
sealing with duct tape. Place samples in a cooled ice chest. s
I
5) Screen the middle sample for the presence of organic vapors using a:portable photo-ionization
detector(PID) and record the measurement on the boring log. :t 1
{r.
6)Extrude the middle and upper sleeves and record the sample descriptions on the boring log in !
accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
7)Decontaminate the sampling equipment between samples.
8)Place auger returns on plastic sheeting pending laboratory analysis. f
h lin device to collect a groundwater sample.
9)If groundwater is encountered, use a hydropunc sampling ,! gr p
Place sample in sterilized 40-m1 vials and 1-liter amber bottles and store in ice chest.
o measure the groundwater in th' boring(s) and domestic well
14)Use a water level meter t depth p to gr F ,! g{s)
and the total depth of the domestic well.
F
11)Backfill the boring with cement grout from total depth to su}face.
1
f
