. 5.0 ADDITIONAL WELL SURVEY INFORMATION
Table 3 lists the names and addresses of the businesses that were contacted or inspected during
the June 1999 drive-by receptor survey This list does not include every property or address
within 2000 feet of the site, but is a representative mix of new and old commercial and industrial
properties and is considered to be a statistically valid sampling of the area with respect to the
presence or absence of domestic and industrial wells Several occupants expressed their belief
that the entire area is on City water and none of the people with whom we spoke were aware of
any private wells in the area
6.0 CONCLUSIONS
In the Second Quarter Report, we suggested that it may be possible to obtain conditional
regulatory approval for case closure despite the reported detection of MTBE and other
hydrocarbons at low concentrations In view of the sample results from the third quarter, the
existence of these hydrocarbons is now questionable and the laboratory may have detected
residual traces of hydrocarbons from previously-analyzed samples If so, it is possible that
unconditional case closure may be warranted Because unconditional closure is better than
conditional closure, we recommend that groundwater monitoring continue through the fourth
quarter of 1999 If concentrations remain low or show evidence of further decline, we
recommend preparing a Site Closure Report in conjunction with the Fourth Quarter Monitoring
• Report and requesting closure of the investigation with no further monitoring in the year 2000
. 3
