Macias Dear Ms. Le:
Roy W. Pedro This letter is in response to your faxed comments, dated October 24,2003 for the Safeway
Alan K Shitnabukuro kiosk/Gas Station submitted for application to install underground storage tanks at the
John W. Strobel above referenced location. Our responses to the review comments are listed below and
Blythe R.Wilson attempt to follow the same order of appearance as your review documents.
1. Page FS3-drawing 4 shows a connector tube being used to link the piping through the
dispenser pans. Secondary termination must occur within the dispenser pan. Clarify
drawing.
We have eliminated the connector tube located inside the dispenser sump. Any
product leakage within the tube will be secondarily contained within the
dispenser sump and monitored.
2. According to the plans, page FS4-Drawing 8 has a brine resevior and sensor used for
monitoring the vent underground/aboveground transition sump. Manufacturer
specification sheets were not submitted for the brine sensor equipment.
Offices Because the SWRCB has not yet approved any system for the continuous
BELLEVUE, WA monitoring of the secondary containment using vacuum, pressure or interstitial
liquid level measurement methods and we anticipate completing the installation
LA HABRA, CA of this UST system before the July 1, 2004 deadline (LG 162-1), the vent/vapor
MARTINEZ, CA piping secondary containment shall be continuously monitored to detect the entry
PETALUMA, CA ofproduct into the secondary containment via the liquid sensors in the piping
sumps at the tanks (per H&S Code, sec. 25290.2(d). No brine or liquid sensor will
SACRAMENTO, CA be introduced into this UST systemsvent/vapor piping at this time. Thus, the
SCOTTSDALE, AZ detail has been revised.
VANCOUVER, WA
www.rUdesign.com
