certified facility, performed the analyses. The analytical
results are summarized in Table 1. Laboratory data sheets
and chain-of-custody documentation are included in Appendix
III.
Soil boring MW-1 was converted to a groundwater monitoring
well. On January 30, 1990, the well was monitored and
developed in accordance with WaterWork's well monitoring and
development protocols (Appendix III) . A water sample was
collected the same day in accordance with WaterWork' s
Groundwater Sampling Protocol, (Appendix III) . The sample
was analyzed by B.C. Laboratories for BTX and TPH as diesel
by EPA 8020 and DOHS methods, respectively. Analytical
results are summarized in Table 2. Laboratory data sheets
and chain-of-custody documentation are included in Appendix
TII.
3.2 Subsurface Conditions
kSoils beneath the project site consist primarily of lean
clay and silt to 19.5 feet below grade, the maximum depth
., explored. No evidence of hydrocarbon odoxs or •sail=
d :eoolratiolrx teas acted':indri11 cuttns:' }tl :'
barixus. Laboratory analysis of the soil samples indicates
. that petroleum hydrocarbons are not preseht 'db&iv *,M:L1u :
reporting requ3r•.ement$
i
3.3 Groundwater Conditions
Groundwater. was encountered in the boreholes at depths
ranging; f`'tbm .7 to 9 feet below rade: Laboratory I 9 results
for the water sample collected from monitoring well MW-1 do
not record BTX constituents above minimum reporting levels.
However total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel are present
at a concentration of 150 parts per billion.
4.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the absence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil
samples collected from the project site, no evidence of
significant soil contamination exists outside of the area
near the former tank pit. Therefore, WaterWork recommends
excavation of the contaminated soil and removal to a Class
II landfill. We further recommend quarterlysampling P g of
monitoring well MW-1 for a period of one year.
it
Is
k*.. 3
i
