Install extraction well EW-1 to 30 feet below surface grade(bsg)within silt zone.
2. Install extraction well EW-2 to 35 feet bsg.
3. Install three vapor monitoring probes to different depths of 10 to 20 feet bsg,25 to 30 feet bsg,
and 30 to 35 feet bsg as observation points to evaluate the effectiveness of the soil vapor
extraction(SVE)pilot test.
4. Conduct a 4-hour SVE pilot test(2 hours per extraction well). Vapor samples will be collected
using Tedlar bags for analyses.
COMMENTS AND CONDITIONS:
1. The work plan did not include construction diagrams, description,or method of installation of
the proposed vapor monitoring probes. In a fax dated September 8,2003,Wright stated that
"well"and'probe"construction detailr will be provided with the "report of fandrng"from thrr pilot test. This is
unacceptable because one of the main goals of the SVE.pilot test is to obtain information such
as vacuum pressure and air flow rate from the observation wells(or in this case, monitoring
probes)in order to calculate the radius of influence (ROI) and evaluate SVE as a clean up
technology for this site. Therefore, the proposed vapor monitoring probes must be installed
before conducting SVE pilot test, and EHD cannot approve their installation without the above-
mentioned construction details. Submit by mail or fax the information including construction
diagram, details, and method of installation to EI D by September 18,2003.
2. Install the three vapor monitoring probes in a cluster group (not nested)and preferably in the
downgradient direction.
3. One magnahelix must be installed at each monitoring probe and extraction well_ In addition,a
flow meter must be installed at each extraction well. Complete seal of all the probes and wells
associated with the SVE test must be achieved in order for the SVE pilot test to yield any
significant data.
4. Begin implementation(well installation)by October 18,2003.
DATED Se tember 10 2003 BY
v V
C: RvVQCB,Central Valley Region—James L.L.Barton,RG
C: Wright Environmental Services,Inc.—Jeff Downs,RG
