05 July 2007
AGE-NC Project No.03-1100
of the brass sleeve will be immediately covered with Teflon or aluminum sheets, sealed with plastic
end caps, secured with tape and immediately placed in a chilled container for transportation to a
DHS-certified laboratory. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the location, boring designation,
depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
Soil sample duplicates will be monitored for the presence of organic vapor using a photo-ionization
detector (PID: Thermo Environmental 58013, 10.0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene) and the readings
will be recorded on boring logs. Soil sample duplicates will be visually described using the Unified
Soil Classification System (USCS) and the descriptions will be recorded on the boring logs.
Grab ground water samples will be collected from within 2-inch diameter hollow-stem rods equipped
with a five-foot, extendable 0.01-inch slotted PVC screen. Grab ground water samples will be
collected in selected intervals of saturated porous and permeable material. The screen will be
exposed at the selected depths and a stainless steel bailer will be used to retrieve the water samples.
Ground water samples for appropriate EPA analyses will be collected into 40-m1 VOA vials.
After collection, the samples will be appropriately labeled and placed on ice and kept in a cooler
until delivered to the laboratory for analysis. Chain-of-custody protocols will be used to document
sample custody transfer from the field to the analytical laboratory. A chain-of-custody form will
accompany the samples.
The proposed soil boring location is illustrated on Figure 2. Following borehole advancement,
portland cement (grout mix) will be utilized to backfill each borehole from total depth utilizing a
down-hole tremie pipe. The EHD will be given a 48-hour inspection notice to inspect the grout mix
and backfilling activities.
3.7. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools used for sample collection, except for disposable bailers, will be thoroughly
rinsed with clean water after being washed with a solution of Alconox. All down-hole drilling
equipment will be pressure washed prior to starting each boring.
Decontamination water generated during the ground water sampling activities will be contained in
DOT-approved drums which will be appropriately labeled for storage. Drums containing
decontamination water will be stored on-site pending appropriate removal and disposal.
Advanced GeoEnvironmentsl,Inc.
