September 27, 2007
Eric Price
Ground Zero Analysis, Inc.
1714 Main Street.
Esclon, CA 95320-1927
RE: Proposal for Bench scale evaluation of RegenOx'for removal of petroleum
hydrocarbons
Dear Eric:
I Thankyou for your interest in PRIMA Environmental's bench-scale testing services. Per
f your request, I have prepared a Scope of Work and Cost Estimate to evaluate RegenOxTM
for use in in situ chemical oxidation of petroleum hydrocarbons. Specific compounds of
concern are diesel range organics (DRO), gasoline range'organics (GRO), BTEX
compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes);fuel oxygenates (MTBE., TBA,
{ ETBE,DIPE, TAME) and lead scavengers [1,2-dichlorcethane (1,2-DCA) and ethylene
dibromide(EDB)]
RegenOx is proprietary oxidizing agent developed by Regenesis(San Clemente, CA). It is
a based on Fenton's-type chemistry and uses a solid, slowrelease hydrogen peroxide and a
catalyst to generate radicals that can oxidize a wide range of contaminants. RegenOx
generates H2O2, which in turn decomposes to generate oxygen gas. Although the rate of
gas formation should be relatively slow and should not cause significant stripping of
volatile components, this will be evaluated in the laboratory study. .
As with all strong oxidants, RegenOxTM may potentially have long term or short term
secondary affects such as oxidation of soil-bound chromium to Cr(VI), oxidation of
naturally occurring bromide to bromate, or mobilization of metals. The magnitude and
duration of any secondary effects is site specific and may or may not be of significance.
APPROACH
Batch tests will be conducted to evaluate RegenOx. Specific goals are
assess contamiant removal and estimate appropriate amount of RegenOx needed
- determine whether losses are due to destruction or volatilization
- evaluate the effect of RegenOx on secondary water quality parameters
10.265 Old Placerville Road,Suite 15,Sacramento,CA 95827-3042•Ph(916)363-8798•Fax(916)363-8829
www.primaenvironmental.coni -
